How the discovery engine works

All in one place

Around 300 tools across ingestion, warehouses, transformation, orchestration, BI, reverse ETL, observability and catalogs. One honest card each.

Browse by category

Every tool gets the same card: pricing model, starting price, free tier or not, open source or not, where it runs, what it replaces. No vendor writes their own page.

Compare side by side

Fivetran vs Airbyte, Snowflake vs BigQuery, dbt vs the alternatives. Every pair people actually search, with the structured fields lined up and a short verdict.

Get a stack recommendation

Describe your company in one sentence. The discovery engine maps the pipeline with named tools, a monthly cost and the seams where two tools won’t talk.

How the discovery engine works

One sentence in, a mapped stack out. Every recommendation links to a real tool page with a real price.

One sentence in: company type, data volume, team size, budget

You type what you run today and what you want. Four optional chips narrow it down. No account, no form.

Every layer named, from source to dashboard

A monthly cost estimate built from list prices, not vendor quotes

The seams: where two tools don’t talk, or the team is too small for the choice

Swap any tool and the whole stack re-runs

A permanent link for every result, so you can share it

Recommendations stay independent of sponsors, every time

Start with the guides

33 chapters that 1,700 sites still link to, exactly where they always were.

Read the Data Warehouse Guide Free. No account.
No product to buy.

Independent

No vendor writes or edits its own page, and sponsorship never changes a ranking or a recommendation.

Honest pricing

List prices from the vendors’ own sites, checked monthly, with the free tier spelled out.

Labelled

Sponsored slots sit next to the list, never inside it, and always say so.

Open

Every tool page has a correction link, and a human reads them.

FAQs

A reference site for the modern data stack: a directory of around 300 tools with the same honest card for each, a discovery engine that maps a stack from one sentence about your company, and the original Panoply guides and blog at their original addresses. It is run by the team behind ecomm.design and Mostash.

Yes. Tool pages, comparisons, the discovery engine, the guides and the blog cost nothing and need no account. The site pays for itself with clearly labelled vendor placements and a few affiliate links.

It reads your sentence, matches it against the structured data behind every tool page (category, pricing model, deployment, integrations), and returns one tool per layer with the reasoning, a monthly cost estimate and the seams. Only tools with complete data are recommended, and sponsorship never influences the result.

If it belongs in the data stack, yes. Claiming your page is free: you can keep pricing, integrations and positioning accurate, add a logo and a demo link. What you cannot do is write the page or change a ranking.

A labelled slot on a category page or a clearly marked sponsored comparison. Pricing depends on the category; write to us from the company page and we will send the current rate card.

Panoply was a managed cloud data warehouse founded in Tel Aviv in 2015 and acquired by SQream in 2021. The product was shut down in 2026 and the domain lapsed. We bought it because the guides were too useful to let 404, and rebuilt the site around the thing the name always promised: a complete collection.

Panoply takes privacy and security very seriously, which is why we’re SOC 2 and GDPR compliant and follow HIPAA guidelines. Please see our Privacy Policy for an overview of our security and compliance protocols.
